 Establishment of a Learning Culture

I interpret the concept of "a little learning is a dangerous thing" as a true concept because of the idea that the gaining of knowledge is power. As a teacher that strives to be a life long learner, it is important to keep in mind that in order to establish a successful learning culture that fosters independent thinking and exploration one must be willing to admit when they are unsure about a topic or concept. As a result, students need to witness modeling of their teacher before expecting to complete a task on an independent level. I agree with the idea that a little learning can be a dangerous thing because if a teacher is unwilling to bend or change their instructional practices to best meet their students needs then it is quite likely that they are putting their students at a disadvantage compared to other peers.

According to Paine (2019) "a learning culture is when an organization can take insight from outside and share it rapidly inside and turn it into action." Additionally, Paine (2019) discusses the fact that schools are the center of chaos but as a result leaders of the school organization must come together to overcome the challenges faced in order to establish an environment full of a workforce that is comfortable with the idea of change and transformation. In fact, education is constantly changing which has been reflected through the growth of technology in the classroom and its impact on expectations of instructional delivery by teachers. The establishment of a learning culture is not a one person job or task. I believe the establishment of an appropriate learning culture requires the dedication and commitment of all stakeholders involved. If school districts want to ensure that they are providing quality education to their students it requires being open to trying new instructional practices and shifting to meet the needs of the diverse learners in the classroom. Haiyan et. al (2018) states, "A positive teacher learning culture is important to effect meaningful changes in schools" (p. 1). In order for a positive learning culture to exist there must be successful school leaders in place who are willing to build and support a learning culture throughout the entire building at the district level. In conclusion, the establishment of a learning culture starts at the top with district leaders, board members, building leaders, teachers, students, families and all community stakeholders.
